LVT VS SHEET VINYL: WHICH IS RIGHT FOR YOUR HOME?

By Bramer's Flooring · 2025-01-15

Choosing between LVT and sheet vinyl is one of the most common questions our team is asked during a free home survey. Both are waterproof, both are durable, and both look great — but they suit different rooms, budgets and lifestyles. Here's how we'd help you decide.

WHAT IS LVT?

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) is a rigid or semi-rigid tile or plank made from layered PVC with a high-resolution photo layer and a tough wear layer on top. It convincingly mimics wood, stone or ceramic and is fitted as click-lock planks or glue-down tiles. Brands like Karndean, Amtico and Moduleo lead the market.

WHAT IS SHEET VINYL?

Sheet vinyl arrives in a roll and is cut to fit the room as a single seamless piece (or with as few seams as possible). It's typically cushioned, easy to clean, and the most cost-effective waterproof flooring you can buy.

COST COMPARISON

Sheet vinyl supply-and-fit starts from £8/sqm. LVT is usually £15–£35/sqm supply-and-fit depending on brand and design. LVT lasts longer and looks more premium.

BEST FOR KITCHENS & BATHROOMS

Both work brilliantly. For bathrooms with shower-spray we often recommend sheet vinyl for its seamless finish. For kitchens, LVT's tougher wear layer handles dropped pans and chair scrapes better.

OUR VERDICT

If budget is tight or the room sees water frequently, sheet vinyl wins. If you want a long-term, premium look that adds value to your home, LVT is hard to beat.
