Ripples and bumps in a fitted carpet are not something you have to live with. Most of the time the carpet is fine and it was the fit that let it down, so I can often stretch it back tight and save you the cost of a new one. I also repair burns, pet damage and worn patches, and I put right carpets that someone else fitted.

Ripples usually come from one of three things: a poor stretch when the carpet went down, the wrong underlay (too soft or too thick), or damp that has loosened the carpet or rotted the gripper. I work out which it is before I touch anything. If damp is the cause, stretching is only a short fix, so I will tell you straight and sort the cause first.

I use a power-stretcher to pull the carpet tight across the room, then re-fix it on the gripper and tuck the edges. For damage, I cut a patch from an offcut and match the pile and pattern. I also fit or replace doorway bars and threshold trims where the carpet meets another floor.
