HERRINGBONE AND PARQUET FLOORING FITTERS IN WARWICKSHIRE

Herringbone is a pattern of short blocks laid in a zigzag, and it makes a hallway or living room look properly finished. I fit herringbone in both LVT and wood across Redditch, Solihull and Warwickshire. LVT herringbone is waterproof and hard-wearing, so it suits kitchens and busy halls. Wood herringbone is warmer and can be sanded and refinished for years.

Herringbone and chevron are often mixed up. In herringbone, the ends of the blocks are square, so each block butts into the side of the next and makes a stepped zigzag. In chevron, the ends are cut at an angle, so the blocks meet in a clean point, like a row of arrows. You can also add a border, one or two rows of blocks around the edge of the room, which frames the pattern and looks great in hallways.

Herringbone takes longer and costs more to fit than planks, and it is worth knowing why. The pattern has to be set out from a centre line so it runs straight through the room and down the hall, every edge block is cut by hand, and the floor underneath has to be very flat, because the pattern shows every dip. Done right, it is the floor people notice first when they walk in.
